‘Secret Place’ is the brand new single from French-born, Dublin-based singer/songwriter Jeremy Engel. Serving as the follow-up to his debut single ‘I Don’t Want to Stay’, ‘Secret Place’ sees the artist exploring a more unguarded and intimate sound. Treading the line between indie-folk and acoustic rock, Engel has constructed a beautifully tender, sincere, and poignant tune. Dealing with age-old themes like love, vulnerability, and acceptance, ‘Secret Place’ is incredibly relatable and inviting to the listener. “In this secret place, this secret place where it all comes true,” sings Engel. “Just the feel of love for me and you.”
Inspired by the likes of Leonard Cohen and Rory Gallagher, the talented musician’s vocals are just as impressive as his songwriting. There’s a genuineness to Jeremy Engel that will undoubtedly serve him well going forward. We at Indie Top 39 can’t wait to hear what he gifts us next!
‘Secret Place’ is a beautifully tender, emotional, and poignant tune. We’re falling pretty hard for Jeremy Engel over here.

What does the song mean to you?
‘Secret Place’ means a lot to me. I guess it is about the desire for love rather than love itself. It is about exposure and vulnerability. It is about accepting the fact that giving everything is not always enough and that sometimes you just have to step down, because even if love is nurtured in fantasy it is consumed in reality. It is also about many other things, but that’s my secret place. What matters is what it means to you.
Who do you hope the song resonates with the most?
Ironically, I think songs often resonate the least with people for whom they were intended. We always want to convey a message, hoping that words and emotions can make a change, but we tend to forget that the listener has a responsibility in creating the perfect encounter. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Tell us about your creative process and how the song came to be?
I guess the creative process of a song is always elusive, and we only have limited control over it. All the feelings anchored in your subconscious scratch to the surface from time to time and you just need to give them an embodiment. Some songs take years to reach maturity and some others take shape instantly, which was the case for ‘Secret Place’. I embarked on a broken night with a nice whiskey and the song took me by surprise. At dawn, it was there.
What does success mean to you?
We are all failures – at least the best of us are.
