‘Zeus’ is the latest single from Edmonton-based electro-pop artist Robin Cisek, and it’s also her first release since her critically acclaimed debut album Delicate Minds. Let me just say very quickly, that it’s been worth the wait! ‘Zeus’ allows for Cisek’s silvery and lush vocals to shine bright, and placed over stacked harmonies, produce a tune that’s fresh, atmospheric, and to put it rather simply, banging.
Produced by JUNO-award-winning producers Brad Simons and Brandon Unis, the upbeat track, as you might expect, was born from Cisek’s love with Greek mythology. “Zeus is not a consistently moral individual but he is still idealised for his strength, power and representation of masculinity,” says Cisek. “I wanted to playfully point out how his immorality is simultaneous but contradictory to his godliness.” In doing so, the gifted musician has concocted a song that will take you on a sonic journey, and we at Indie Top 39 aren’t ready to hop off just yet!
‘Zeus’ is a fresh, intriguing, atmospheric, and banging tune that we just can’t get enough of!

Who do you hope the song resonates with the most?
I think when people really dig into the lyrics and meaning behind the song they’ll understand that this song is about desperation and danger. I hope this song resonates with people who have felt that in their lives, through relationships or otherwise, but I would also love to see this song resonating with people who just want to put on their headphones and escape to another world.
Tell us about your creative process and how the song came to be?
Usually, my creative process starts with an experience or something I’ve noticed about the world around me, but ‘Zeus’ is kind of unique because it started with me searching for a new TV show! I came across a show on Amazon Prime about the Greek Gods. I became increasingly interested in the stories and the characterization of the god Zeus. All of the stories that I watched illustrated him as violent, unfaithful, and selfish, and showed that he frequently made decisions out of spite, lust or greed. It was interesting to me that with all these negative characteristics, he was still idolized.
I wanted to playfully point out how his immorality is simultaneous but contradictory to his intrigue and godliness to the public as a powerful figure. I wanted to make a connection between relationships and how these contradictions can often create dangerous, harmful, and addictive relationships. With this idea, I began working on the lyrics, writing them like poetry with a bit of a melody in mind and called my producers to schedule some studio time. They helped me make the music and make lyrical choices that worked with the new music. I wanted to create a song that transported any listener to a romanticized, beautiful version of how I imagined Ancient Greece.
Which Netflix series or movie would you like your music to be featured in?
I would love to see this song included in a show similar to the one I was watching when I wrote it! I see a lot of people talking about the new Percy Jackson movie that Disney is working on and I think it would be incredible to get the song in something like that. I think it’s so cool to see that people have an interest in mythology and stories from history like I do and I love seeing authors and directors using them to inspire their own stories and creating worlds where mythology is fact and it can live and grow into something new!
